How Mounting Monsters Works

Understand mounting as a controlled opportunity without forcing aerial attacks into unsafe openings.

Short answer: Mounting is a situational control opportunity created through compatible attacks and positioning; pursue it when the setup is safe, not as a mandatory damage loop.

Create the opportunity

Use the game's supported aerial and mounting interactions while respecting terrain and weapon behavior. Repeating unsafe jumps into an active monster costs more than a mount is worth.

During the mount

Follow the current on-screen instructions, monitor stamina or prompts, and respond to the monster's attempt to remove the hunter rather than mashing one action.

Prepare the follow-up

A successful mount can create team pressure or a knockdown. Other hunters should maintain awareness and prepare their best controlled opening instead of scattering.

Common mistakes

Do not force mounting after the monster has moved away from suitable terrain, ignore defensive prompts, or spend the resulting knockdown sharpening when maintenance could have been done earlier.
