Why sharpness matters
Melee sharpness is a working resource. As it falls, effective damage and reliability against resistant parts can suffer, so waiting until repeated rebounds is already too late.
Watch the gauge during natural breaks instead of staring at it during combat.
Create a safe window
Use the Seikret, move behind solid separation, wait for the monster to change area, or sharpen after a controlled knockdown when the lost damage is worth the reset.
- Select the whetstone before disengaging.
- Confirm the monster is not turning toward you.
- In multiplayer, do not assume another hunter will hold attention.
Build and item choices
Sharpness-support skills are useful when they preserve real attack windows. Test how often sharpening interrupts a hunt before sacrificing other build functions.
