What Monster Hunter Wilds Ver.1.042.00.00 changes, how offline Event Quests work, and the exact limitation on Prologue Demo save transfer.

Short answer: Ver.1.042 is primarily an access and compatibility update. It makes 25 previously online-gated Event and Challenge Quests playable offline, adds Prologue Demo save transfer under a strict new-save condition, makes Just What the Doctor Ordered permanent, and fixes several focused gameplay and presentation issues.

What offline Event Quest access means

Capcom changed all 25 currently available Event Quests and Challenge Quests that previously required an online connection to accept. After installing Ver.1.042, those quests can be played offline when they are present in the game's available quest list. Capcom's examples include Special Assignment: Slay Gogmazios, Freedom from Solitude, and The Dreamer's Stairway.

This removes the connection requirement for accepting and playing those supported quests; it does not turn multiplayer features into offline systems. Playing with other hunters, downloading an update, and accessing online services still require the relevant network and platform conditions.

The update also moves available entries toward the top of the Event Quest list. Check the Quest Counter first instead of relying on an old screenshot or copied rotation table. Our Event Quest access guide now reflects the offline change.

Just What the Doctor Ordered is now permanent

The previously limited-time quest Just What the Doctor Ordered became a permanent addition and can be played offline. This is a content-availability change, not an announcement that every historical event reward is automatically placed in inventory.

Prologue Demo save transfer has a strict condition

Ver.1.042 adds support for importing save data from the Monster Hunter Wilds Prologue Demo. The important limitation is easy to miss: the full game must be launched while no full-version save data exists. The transfer is designed to begin a full-game file from eligible demo progress, not merge demo progress into an established hunter.

  1. Install the current full-game update.
  2. Complete or create eligible Prologue Demo save data on the supported platform and account.
  3. Confirm that the full game has no save you need to preserve.
  4. Launch the full game and follow the transfer prompt.
Save safety: Do not delete an existing full-game save merely to test transfer. Backups, cloud synchronization, platform ownership, and regional compatibility should be verified through official platform support before changing valuable save data.

Fixes with practical gameplay impact

The update corrects terrain displacement affecting the four-direction effects of certain Arch-tempered Arkveld attacks. Hunters should still read the monster's animation and terrain, but footage of the unintended effect position from an older version should no longer be treated as the current baseline.

Sword & Shield users can again place traps from a radial-menu shortcut immediately after activating Focus Mode while the weapon is drawn. Another fix addresses how ordinary Synthetic Shield or Synergy effects behaved after a Resonance II-enhanced version expired.

On PC, Capcom lists measures intended to prevent stuttering when an FPS cap and NVIDIA DLSS are used together. This is not a promise of identical frame rates on every system. Rebuild a clean baseline after updating, note the driver and settings, and follow our PC performance troubleshooting workflow before attributing every hitch to the same cause.

Other listed corrections cover intermittent audio, an Arkveld pendant animation under heavy load, text, voice lines, duplicate Training Barrel camp gear display, and Guardian Fulgur Anjanath head textures.

Post-update checklist

  • Confirm the title screen reports Ver.1.042.00.00.
  • Open the Event Quest list and check currently available entries at the top.
  • Test offline acceptance only after the desired quest is shown as available.
  • Do not attempt a demo transfer over a valuable existing full-game save.
  • On PC, record driver, resolution, upscaling, frame cap, and scene before judging stutter.
  • Remove or update unsupported mods before diagnosing a new crash or missing reward.
